"AND THOUGH YOU FIGHT TO STAY ALIVE, YOUR BODY STARTS TO SPASMUS, FOR NO MERE MORTAL CAN RESIST THE MAGIC OF MERASMUS!"

LORE

A mysterious individual, we know very little of Merasmus' early life. We know that he is 6,000 years old and that he shares details about Ancient Sumerians, the earliest known human civilization. We also know that he was a potion brewer somewhere around the 1860s. Other than that, all other events happen in tf2's present timeline.

His first appearance in the comics tells the story of how he hired a young Demoman to clean his castle. After Demoman had ignored Merasmus' warning and read the Bombinomicon, his eye socket became haunted and his eye had to be removed. It is then revealed that Merasmus is now Soldier's hated roommate.

Merasmus and Soldier have always had a poor relationship, at least from what we have seen in the comics. So much so that they have no problem trying to kill each other. After realizing that Soldier had eaten all of his "kill me come back stronger" pills, Merasmus decided that he would instead kill the other mercenaries.

After kicking Soldier out of his castle, it became a bit of a tradition for Merasmus to visit the mercenaries every Halloween, either to attempt to kill them or to get their assistance in gathering souls or bodies depending on his current objective. He is usually trying to pay off one of several international mafias.

Spoiler alert for the 7th tf2 comic! I will probably keep this up for a while just to give people a chance to read it.

In the final comic, it's revealed that Merasmus was imprisoned after he was framed for the murder of his roommate, Tom Jones, which was actually committed by Soldier. When Soldier comes to break Merasmus out of jail, he tells him that the Korean mafia is after him for a debt he took in his name. They are both captured, and Merasmus is tortured to death, now living on as a ghost. Per Soldier's suggestion, he now lives in a brick in his pants with Tom Jones' ghost

OTHER TRAITS

Merasmus is never explicitly stated to be religious, however he appears to worship Bonzo, the evil circus god and aims to summon him. That or he is simply looking for an evil entity to help him wreak some havoc.

Insert ramble about his immortality and how interesting it is.

MAGICAL PROFICIENCY

This is a list of spells that Merasmus has been able to perform.

  • WIP
  • APPEARANCES

In the comics, Merasmus appears in every Halloween issue. These include Bombinomicon, Doom-Mates, Blood Money, and Gargoyles & Gravel. He also appears briefly in Grave Matters and Ring of Fired, with a more major role in The Days Have Worn Away.

In game, he only appears during the Halloween event period, starting on October 1st of every year. He is the announcer for most Halloween maps, and appears as a boss on Ghost Fort, Brimstone, Gravestone, and Slasher. There are also a few more obscure references to him in maps.

    FUN FACTS

  • I have yet to see somebody mention Merasmus' piranha motif. Not only does he carry some on his person, but they can be seen on the covers of Doom-Mates (which is also this site's header) and Gargoyles & Gravel. They also appear in the beginning of Grave Matters where he has them as tattoos.
